Graduating With Departmental Honors
The Department of Economics honors those of its students who have
distinguished academic records. To be awarded departmental honors in
economics, students must satisfy GPA requirements and write an honors
paper.
A student with a 3.5 GPA in a major offered by the
Department and an overall 2.8 GPA at the beginning of the upper-senior
semester may apply for departmental honors at that time. GPA levels
must be maintained for the award of departmental honors.
A student must also complete ECO 499:
Thesis Project by writing an acceptable honors paper. The honors
paper is written under faculty supervision and must also be approved by
a second reader.
Students enrolled in the BA/MA program may substitute
enrollment in ECO 798 and an MA thesis for ECO 499 and the honors
paper.
Enrollment in 499/798 and completion of the
paper/thesis need not be delayed until the upper-senior semester.
