Professor Filer received his Ph.D. from Princeton University and taught at Brandeis University for eight years before coming to Hunter in 1986. He is a Senior Fellow of New York's Manhattan Institute and has twice been a Fulbright Scholar in the Czech Republic. He currently sits on the executive and supervisory committee of Center for Economic Research and Graduate education, Charles University and Economics Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (CERGE-EI), Prague, where he taught from 1996-1999. He is a Research Fellow at the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA), Bonn; the Center for Economic Studies/Institute for Economic Research (CESifo), Munich and The William Davidson Institute (WDI) at the University of Michigan. His research interests include labor markets, housing markets, financial markets and the transition from communism to free markets.
