Michael Schleifer joined the Department of Economics as an adjunct instructor in 1986, and he became a member of the full-time faculty in 1998. He has been a CPA in New York State since 1981.

Schleifer has been the academic advisor for accounting since 1998, and he expanded his advisory role in 2006 to include economics. He has also been Chair of the Hunter College Senate's Grade Appeals Committee (2003-2006).

Schleifer, a sports enthusiast, has been actively involved in athletics at Hunter College. He has been the public address announcer for Hunter athletics since 1987. He was the radio voice (play-by-play and color commentary) for CUNY basketball (1993-2005). He has been Hunter's Faculty Athletic Representative to NCAA since 2006.
